07 Jan GRAFT REMOVAL IN COORDINATION WITH 4 HOSPITALS

On Epiphany Day, a young man, aged 22, sadly lost his life, but at the same time managed to give life to other people, next to his family’s decision to donate his organs. The graft removal took place at dawn in the “251 General Aviation Hospital”, with the cooperation of surgical teams from four hospitals. The Organ Transplantion Unit of G.H.A. “Evangelismos” – led by Dr. Vasileios Drakopoulos, assisted by Christos Nikolaidis and coordinated by Catherine Balaska and Dimitris Pistolas – removed the kidneys, while surgical teams from “Ippokrateio” General Hospital of Thessaloniki, from “Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre” and from an Austrian hospital proceeded with the removal of the liver, heart and lungs, respectively.
