20 Sep THE 1ST TOTAL LAPAROSCOPIC HYSTERECTOMY AND BILATERAL SALPINGO-OOPHORECTOMY AT THE G.H.A “EVANGELISMOS”

Dr Vasileios Drakopoulos performed with great success the 1st  – at the G.H.A. “Evangelismos” – Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH) and Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy.

The minimally invasive procedure took place at the 1st Surgery Clinic & Organ Transplant Unit, with the contribution of Dr. Nikolaos Roukounakis, assisted by Vassilis Kalatzis and Constantinos Botsakis. Through four small incisions in the anterior abdominal wall, the uterus and the cervix of a woman 58 y.o. woman – with previous low anterior resection – were  removed, along with the ovaries and fallopian tubes. The laparoscopic method offers compared to traditional, “open” methods very short hospitalization and rapid recovery and return to everyday life, significantly less postoperative pain and better cosmetic results due to small incisions.

The process was well supported by the Anesthesiology Department of the Hospital – in the presence of Director Barbara Vlachopoulou – Sfyra and anesthesiologist Stella Giannaraki – as well by Popi Bazani, Iliana Tsamba and Anastasia Katsaros, members of the Nursing Staff.
