14 Oct THE FIRST – AT THE G.H.A. “EVANGELISMOS” – LAPAROSCOPIC ABDOMINOPERINEAL RESECTION
The first – at the General Hospital of Athens “Evangelismos” – Laparoscopic Abdominoperineal Resection (LAPR) was concluded successfully by Dr. Drakopoulos and members of the First Surgical Clinic (Dr. N. Roukounakis, A. Bakalis, G. Kyriakopoulos, E. Daskalaki). The patient, aged 58, suffered from rectal cancer. During the procedure, the sigmoid colon and rectum were removed, along with the anal sphincters, while a colostomy was created. The laparoscopic procedure resulted in less loss of blood, less postoperative pain, faster recovery and patient’s mobilization.
