08 May THE FIRST LAPAROSCOPIC LEFT LATERAL HEPATECTOMY AT “EVANGELISMOS”

Dr. Vasileios Drakopoulos successfully performed the first laparoscopic left lateral hepatectomy at “Evangelismos” G.H.A., on a patient with metastasis on Segment III of the liver. The surgery was carried out at the 1st Surgical Clinic & Transplant Unit of the Hospital, under the direction of Dr. Vasilis Vougas, assisted by the surgeons: S. Voulgaris, V. Lygizos, E. Eliades, K. Botsakis and P. Trakosari, as well as the Department of Anesthesiology and the Nursing Staff of the Hospital.
The postoperative course was smooth with a good general condition of the patient, 3 months after the surgery.
Today, laparoscopic surgery is increasingly gaining ground as a safe method for treating liver metastases. This method, while offering a better field and fewer post-operative complications, often presents technical difficulties and therefore requires a large learning curve.
